3) Buyer intent and likely objections (with evidence)

List the two or three most probable objections and the evidence trail that makes them likely. Evidence might include past call transcripts where the buyer raised budget concerns, competitor mentions in previous emails, or industry patterns from similar deals in your pipeline. Objection prep without evidence is guessing. Objection prep with evidence is pattern recognition.

4) Competitive context (battlecards that don’t read like marketing)

The brief should summarize: what the competitor claims, where those claims break down for this specific buyer’s priorities, any landmines (questions the competitor might plant to make your solution look weak), and proof points that map to the buyer’s stated criteria. Keep the battlecard to three or four bullets. If a rep needs more, link to the full document.

5) Discovery plan (questions that create forward motion)

Good discovery questions do three things: they surface the buyer’s decision process, they quantify pain, and they create commitment to a next step. Include five to seven questions organized around these three goals. Avoid generic discovery frameworks. Tailor questions to the specific deal stage and what you still don’t know.

For example, if the deal risk is “unclear decision process,” include: “Walk me through how a purchase like this typically gets approved internally. Who signs off, and what do they need to see?“

6) Mutual agenda and time plan (so the call doesn’t drift)

A tight agenda takes 30 seconds to read aloud at the start of the call and saves 10 minutes of wandering. Include three to four agenda items with rough timeboxes. End the agenda with a “decision at end” prompt: “At the end of this call, I’d like us to agree on whether it makes sense to move to [next step]. Does that work?“

7) Assets and proof (what to send, and when)

Select one to three assets matched to the call objective and the buyer’s role. A VP of Finance in a pricing call needs an ROI model, not a technical architecture diagram. Specify whether to share the asset during the call (screen share), send it immediately after, or hold it for a follow-up sequence. Timing is part of the strategy.
