How to Build Objection Handling Training That Sticks | AmpUp

Most sales teams train objection handling exactly once: a half-day workshop, a PDF of talk tracks, maybe a quiz. Then everyone returns to their calls and handles objections the same way they did before. The problem is not a lack of content — it is a lack of a system that converts knowledge into observable behavior on live calls.

That system requires a closed loop: diagnose objections from real conversations, design practice around them, run deliberate reps with feedback, coach in the flow of work, and measure whether anything actually changed. Step 2: Build the Rubric and Scenarios Before Anything Else

Set a pass threshold — an average of 2.0 or above across all criteria — and use the same rubric for self-assessment, peer scoring, and manager review.

Scenarios come next, and they live or die on specificity. Practice transfers to live calls only when the scenario feels like a real deal. Use actual buyer language pulled from CI transcripts, specify a buyer role and emotional state, and constrain the situation so the rep cannot sidestep the objection. A useful template:
